The exhibit opened Wednesday night, when families and friends of the student artists came to support the artists’ work. The Studio 2010 Art Show was the culmination of two years of work for the students.

Visual and Digital Arts professor Barbara Anderson-Huget told TheDailyPlanet.com although this is the fourth year this event has run, this has been their best show. “Every student’s choices have been really good and they have picked their best work to put up,” she said. Anderson-Huget said the show gives students real life experience on how to mount an art show. Final year visual and digital arts student Allison Del Vecchio, 19, told TheDailyPlanet.com even though the preparation for the show was extremely intense, she was excited to see everyone’s work. “Everyone’s just so talented,” she said. Del Vecchio created an original anime illustration, which she named “Star Drop.” She said she loves colour and enjoys creating illustrations that look appealing. “I want to make something that looks really nice, that makes me proud of it and I can say, ‘I did this, look at it.’” Ashley Carlisle, 20, told TheDailyPlanet.com she came out to the show support for her friend. She said she was surprised at the quality of work on display. “It was better than I expected,” said Carlisle. “I was really blown away, it looks like professional art.” Carlisle said the students are very talented. She said art is a way for people to express themselves non-verbally. “It’s like another medium for us to connect with each other’s achievements.” The exhibit will run until April 16 and is open Monday to Friday, from 12-5 p.m. Visitors can stop by to view the original creations, which includes photography, paintings, sculptures and illustrations, which were created by the student artists. |
